Won't You Be My Neighbor? Screening & Discussion (Personal & Social Transformation Night)

  • Anders & Michelle's Home 395 Adams Street Oakland CA United States (map)

We will gather to watch and discuss the new award winning documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor?.

From Academy Award-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom), Won't You Be My Neighbor? takes an intimate look at America's favorite neighbor: Mister Fred Rogers. A portrait of a man whom we all think we know, this emotional and moving film takes us beyond the zip-up cardigans and the land of make-believe, and into the heart of a creative genius who inspired generations of children with compassion and limitless imagination.

What is Personal & Social Transformation Night?
Middle Circle's Personal & Social Transformation night creates a place for friends or strangers to help one another become stronger, more creative, more socially engaged thinkers and doers about social issues today.

How do we Gather?
Each gathering is hosted and facilitated by members of the group. The group decides on the topic and picks one or two people to provide introductory info about the topic with the group ahead of our meeting time (e.g. article, podcast, blog, wiki post, etc.). The group then gathers together for dinner and conversation around the topic guided by some foundational rules (e.g. we only speak for ourselves, we practice using 'I' statements, we commit to trying to be open-minded with the purpose of growing and expanding our own perspectives, we practice providing a safe and brave space where we can share our own values and beliefs and be open to being changed by the values and beliefs of others).

What do I need to bring?
The hosts provide some snacks and alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages. Please bring a $5-20 donation for Middle Circle's food kitty. You can donate in advance through Eventbrite at the time you RSVP or by cash, Venmo (@middlecircle), PayPal (donate@middlecircle.org) or credit card at the event. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
